Can I just say I felt really bad for Chloe in this episode? I know she really, REALLY isn’t the nicest person on earth but thinking about what Zoe told her at the end… Maybe that was the very first time in her life that someone told her they would love her unconditionally.
Like, no matter what she did and how she behaved she would be accepted and loved. Remember, she became like that in the first place to gain her Mother’s affection and because of maternal negligence, of course! She never even dared to step out of this mean girl persona, since she knew that’s not what her mother would see as “acceptable”. That’s the case even today. Her father isn’t completely innocent either naturally, since he probably never had time for her during childhood as he was running for mayor, I don’t believe he played a big role in this, though.
Chloe adapted this horrid behavior after being neglected throughout the years and that’s also why being Queen Bee and getting recognized for it meant so much to her, even if the act of heroism itself wasn’t her motivation. Considering all these factors, she never really had a good role model and the one person she looked up to, Ladybug, neglected and left her in the end too. This poor girl was basically destined to turn out this way. But what makes Queen Banana even more soul crushing is the fact that in this episode she has really lost everyone and everything at one point (maybe except Sabrina lol). She lost her childhood friend, the trust in her father, her powers/identity as Queen Bee and the people who had already left her were emphasized on again like Ladybug and her Mother. And of course some of these losses were justified, since Chloe pushed them away herself, but not only are we trying to see things from her perspective, nobody ever taught her different.
This may just be a valuable learning experience for Chloe, especially now that she has the confirmation from her half-sister that she can be vulnerable and can be her true self (which we saw in Malediktator already) without being judged and that her emotions are valid. Actually, now that I’m typing this, maybe Zoe’s character arc somehow also translates to Chloe’s. Maybe that will be the point in all of this: Zoe helping Chloe to turn the tides, because she understands how it is to pretend to be someone you are not, even if one of them did it consciously and one of them does it subconsciously.
There is good in Chloe. We have seen it, Marinette has seen it, all of Paris has seen it. And before you come here saying that “Adrien didn’t turn out this way and he has a neglectful father” - Gabriel became like this only one year ago, when Emilie died. EMILIE “DIED” ONE YEAR AGO CHLOE’S MOTHER HAS NEVER ONCE EXISTED IN HER LIFE SINCE THE DAY SHE WAS BORN.
Not only that, but there is still hope for her. I think I need to remind some of you of the fact that one of the best redemption arcs in the history of animated television didn’t have a smooth ride at all. Zuko from ATLA basically murdered all his development from the second season in the finale of Book Two. Or at least it seemed that way at first… Just like Chloe threw all her work from more than one season away in “Miracle Queen”. (Or at least it seemed that way at first?) But here comes the whole “role model” thing again: Zuko had Iroh, whose guidance stuck with him even until after his betrayal and which ultimately led him to the right path. Chloe never had an Iroh. However, who knows, Zoe could just possibly be her Uncle Iroh.
And, by the way, as long as we are talking about ATLA… Chloe could have turned out a lot worse. I believe many of us know another, only 14 year old girl, who believed that her mother didn’t love her. Actually, who believed NOBODY in the world loved her. And we know how she turned out to be in the end.
Yeah.
All I’m saying is, please don’t be too harsh on Chloe. Yes, the hurt she has caused is definitely inexcusable, but at least there is an explanation and there is hope. Maybe like Mr. Bustier, we should try to see the good in her and all people.
[this was also probably her first hug and show of affection from any sort of motherly figure]
You’re right for all @princekapitan, you’re the BEST Chloé’s best defender!😃😃😃🎊🎊🎉🎉
New seasons will go back to the season one model of being a direct reality tv parody
Tom is grateful for the fanbase being vocal about the show and the team has used the fanbase as a resource
New seasons are leaning into diversity, specifically with a Latinx character, more black characters, and East Asian and South Asian character, a disabled (amputee) character, and 2 LGBT characters that will date.
New writer(s?) to represent these new identities
Not much of the new seasons to show at this point in production
Jen’s daughters are a focus group for character designs which, awww
They’re open to doing more PSAs like the 6Teen one, possibly with TD
We’ll get more revealed about the new seasons later this year
Looking at 2022 for possible(?) release date for new seasons
I loved your aftermath of the miraculous miracle queen story. Though, have you thought about a salt fic for Bustier, like everyone, including marinette and adrian snaps at her for wanting them to write nice letters to chloe. Maybe ones where Chloe gets those letters, and for once sees the pain she's caused.
I’m considering it, definitely. It’s just writing it out that’s difficult.

Bustier blinked a couple of times in surprise. As if she wasn’t sure what she was hearing. “What do you mean you refuse?
Alix rolled her eyes. “We refuse. We’re not doing it. We’ll take the fail. I don’t know how many ways we can say it, but it’s not happening.”
The teacher frowned, not in frustration or anger at the backtalk, but in disappointment. As if it had never occurred to her that her class would unitedly rebel in such a way.
“Alix, that’s cruel!”
“No,” Alya countered, standing up. “What’s cruel is trying to force us to absolve and protect our bully.”
“Chloe isn’t a bully.” Bustier stated in an overly calm and almost patronizing way, as if she was talking to children who didn’t know better. “She is just a little—”
“‘Misguided?’” Nathaniel asked, his sarcasm evident.
“‘Confused?’” Kim added, sounding less than convinced.
“A bitch?” Juleka less asked than outright answered.
Marinette’s dream is a lot deeper than just fearing her identity will be exposed because she made the wrong choice with Alya. But that’s as good a starting point as any.
Alya
Ever since she became Ladybug, Marinette’s been painfully aware of the importance of her role and the heavy burden on her shoulders, something that sets her aside from Chat Noir as she herself pointed out in Reflekdoll. That burden has only become heavier since she became the new Guardian.
The effects her new role was having on her were wrecking her social life and her mental health; eventually leading to Luka’s akumatisation and their later breakup as well as her almost drifting apart from her friends, who were also akumatised due to her secrets.
But all that stress was resolved once she let Alya in, right?
Wrong.
While it is undeniable that Alya has been a huge help ever since she learned the truth and Marinette’s been able to rely on her, that doesn’t change the fact that Marinette has developed trust issues during her time as Ladybug. Even before becoming the Guardian, she still had to make sure the people she chose as temporary wielders were trustworthy and could be entrusted with the mission of returning a miraculous; a mission Alya herself almost failed to accomplish.
But now Alya’s no longer Rena Rouge only in extreme circumstances, now both Trixx and the Fox Miraculous are always under her care.
And, even if Alya’s proven herself to be a loyal friend over and over, that is still a terrifying prospect: Because Alya’s own characterisation gives plenty of opportunities for her to put certain priorities over others.
Up until Sapotis, she was almost obsessed with finding out the truth behind Ladybug and Chat Noir; her first instinct after transforming herself was to ask some personal questions to Ladybug until she gently told her to reel her energy in.
Alya is also especially interested in finding out information, more so if said information has anything to do with the miraculous. Don’t forget Sentibubbler isn’t the first time Marinette’s feared she made the wrong choice with her; she panicked as well in Feast after Alya dibulged an awful lot of information regarding past miraculous holders in her blog.
And now that Hawk Moth not only has upgraded to Shadow Moth, but he also knows the holders’ identities, a fact he already used against them in Optygami, Marinette’s more on edge than ever.
Nino
Believe it or not, Marinette’s fear that Alya might’ve told Nino is perfectly justified.
Alya and Nino are a strong couple who share many things: interests, they’re the first ones to know each other’s secret identities, they even got akumatised together… They’re very in sync, which is something Hawk Moth knows and has used to his advantage.
In Heroes’ Day, Rena’s akumatisation into Rena Rage then led to Carapace becoming vulnerable enough to be akumatised himself. And in Optygami, SentiNino became the perfect mole because Alya would have never suspected of him.
If that weren’t enough, Nino is the one person Alya has ever “betrayed” Marinette for. Despite being sworn to secrecy, that didn’t stop her from telling him that Marinette is in love with Adrien back in Animan. Sure, it might’ve been to get him to give up on her, but that doesn’t change the fact that she betrayed Marinette’s trust to some degree.
Chloé
Now this is the most interesting part of the dream.
Of every temporary holder Marinette could’ve dreamt about (say, Kagami, who could’ve accused her of sabotaging her relationship with Adrien in Heart Hunter), she subconsciously chose Chloé.
And you might be wondering; why?
After all, even if Marinette could’ve done things differently, Chloé was still mostly in it (“it” being the superhero business) to stand out, be popular, and ultimately betrayed Ladybug either way solely because she couldn’t compromise and just had to get her way with things.
The answer is simple; because Marinette feels guilty over Chloé’s situation.
Even if Chloé turned out to be more trouble than she was worth, Marinette still cares about her to some degree; she feels responsible for her. Being Ladybug and therefore Chloé’s idol has allowed her to see her most vulnerable side, to the point she even shows sympathy over a bully who’s tormented her and her loved ones in the past.
Deep down, Marinette blames herself for the hole Chloé’s dug herself in, because it’s a direct result of her secret identity policy. Is she entirely at fault? No, of course not. Chloé dug her own grave. She chose to betray Ladybug and to abuse her position as Queen Bee to be exceptional rather than as a chance for personal growth. But Marinette is still a sympathetic person who hates seeing others suffer.
Remember she got genuinely worried when she saw Lila approach Chloé. Because even if both are bullies, Marinette is perfectly aware that Chloé is the lesser of two evils and that whatever Lila had told her, was meant specifically to hurt her.
Chat Blanc
Even though this is supposed to be the most surprising part of the dream, it’s also quite obvious, don’t you think?
In the end, Chat Blanc is the ultimate manifestation of Marinette’s biggest fears.
Marinette has some clear trauma resulting from her experience at Chat Blanc’s timeline. If finding herself in an apocalyptic world weren’t bad enough, Chat Noir, her kitty, was both responsible for it and deeply traumatised himself.
And what does she know about the reason behind it? That it was a result of them knowing each other’s identities.
That’s literally it.
She never learned Chat is Adrien and the two were actually in a loving, stable relationship. She never learned the true factor that ruined everything was actually Gabriel. She never learned Gabriel was really Hawk Moth, or that he was so obsessed with his own goals that he was willing to sacrifice his son’s sanity, causing the world to burn up in flames in the process.
She knows nothing of it.
All Marinette knows about that timeline is: She and Chat Noir revealing who they are to each other equals total destruction.
Summing up, Marinette’s dream is a perfect and concise summary of her deepest fears. It’s a manifestation of numerous traumatic and/or stressful experiences we just had never seen the aftermath of. And I, for one, feel like I have to applaud the crew for that.
Wow. Lots of teenage angst and I hope for part 2 after season 4. And somebody need a pep talk to add to the cast or one of them used for a little pep talk to add to this story.
